Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What printing options do you offer?

A: I use a local printing company in the same zip code as myself (Chardon, Ohio). If you want anything you see on the web site printed to a custom size or a different paper stock all you need to do is ask and I'll be able to get you an answer within 2 or 3 business days.

Q: What kind of microscopes do you use?

A: My Cheap-O Brand [tm] microscope is a Moysuwe coin microscope 1000X - 4.3 inch LCD digital microscope. This isn't good for biological detail work but it's good for some imaging. It was false advertising that this little thing gets up to 1000x, it can get a good shot of a single grain of sand, it's maybe 100x at best.

My good microscope is a OMAX - 40X-2500X LED digital trinocular lab compound microscope. This microscope can get down to the 2500x with an oil immersion lens. This is a scope that some colleges use for their biology labs, it's not the top of the line but it's better than the kind that you find in the toy department of the big box stores.

Q: What's a good beginner microscope to get for my kid?

A: As with everything in life there is no simple answer and it depends on what your kid is into. I'm not plugging AmScope brand, but they are cheap (you get what you pay for). It's better to spend under $50 than spending $300+ on a microscope that will just sit in a closet collecting dust.

If the kid takes an interest in earth sciences or biological sciences and likes to use a microscope than it will be an easier choice on what kind of quality microscope to buy them when they get to an age they can appreciate it.

Q: What inspires your art work?

A: That's a two fold question. I started out by taking normal microscopy pictures and I wanted to start an educational You Tube Channel. That explains why there is a two year break between my first batch of work and my current work in 2024.

I noticed that a lot of the microscopy pictures resembled the background projections used by the bands in the Haight-Ashbury era of the psychedelic rock movement. With a little bit of color variation and other manipulation I try to blend the bygone days of the psychedelic art with a post cyberpunk ascetic.
